2 Kings 19:15–19 (ESV) 15 And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD and said: “O LORD, the God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth. 16 Incline your ear, O LORD, and hear; open your eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God. 17 Truly, O LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands 18 and have cast their gods into the fire, for they were not gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they were destroyed. 19 So now, O LORD our God, save us, please, from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, O LORD, are God alone.”

2 Kings 19:35-36 (ESV) 35 And that night the angel of the Lord went out and struck down 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians. And when people arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies. 36 Then Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went home and lived at Nineveh.

Penned Truth: In all that I have learned, humility is most often the key to God’s power being on display.

Micah 6:8 (ESV) 8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

David Wilkerson  – “A humble person is not one who thinks little of himself, hangs his head and says, “I’m nothing.” Rather, he is one who depends wholly on the Lord for everything, in every circumstance.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer – “For the Christian, humility is absolutely indispensable. Without it there can be no self-knowledge, no repentance, no faith, and no salvation.” –

Vincent de Paul  – “The most powerful weapon to conquer the devil is humility. For, as he does not know at all how to employ it, neither does he know how to defend himself from it.”

MacArthur – “Humility is arguably the most essential, all-encompassing virtue of the

Christian life.”

Cory Smithee  – “Humility is the catalyst to seeing the supernatural power of God manifested.”

2 Kings 19:14-15 (ESV) 14 Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the LORD and spread it before the LORD.

2 Kings 19:15 (ERV)  15 Hezekiah prayed before the Lord and said, “Lord, God of Israel, you sit as King above the Cherub angels. You alone are the God who rules all the kingdoms on earth. You made heaven and earth.

Road Map To True Humility

  1. Meditate daily on the accurate picture of the Cross.

Isaiah 52:14 (EXB) 14 Many people were ·shocked [astonished; appalled] when they saw him. His appearance was so ·damaged [disfigured; marred] he did not look like a man; his form ·was so changed they could barely tell he was human [L beyond the sons of man/children of humanity].

  1. Our first thought of the day should express our dependence upon God and our need for Him.

Micah 6:8 (ESV) 8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Penned Truth: Pause and consider this, Cory, today you could not exist, draw a single breath apart from God’s sustaining mercies.

Final Statement: For a Christian, we have a choice, one that shapes our prayers. ME in control or GOD in control. We must cultivate true humility in our life; our prayers depend on it.  As for the cross, it’s the ugliest, most violent, and most hellish place in the world. Yet it’s the most beautiful, most peaceful, and the most heavenly. That’s where we must go each day. Where pride and much more are crushed, and a divine kind of humility from above takes its place.
