There are so many signals that warn us that Christmas is on its way. One of those signals is the day after Thanksgiving, the busiest shopping day of the year. Christmas advertising is everywhere we look and in everything we hear. And Christmas jingles won’t let us forget. Now, surf the web and notice how websites have assumed their “Christmas look.” Walk into any store, and you will experience every retailer’s most elaborate displays.

Let’s push the pause button for a moment and realize what should be the most significant indicator that a special day is drawing near.  Well, it’s on our church calendar: the beginning of Advent. The season of Advent is the time we prepare to remember the Christ child who came to live among us. That moment God assumed our humanity and was born and entered our world to secure our redemption.

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)

So, while we will no doubt be caught up in all the hurried activities of this Christmas season, I ask you to take the necessary time this Advent to prepare your hearts to focus on the real reason we celebrate Christmas.

His Name Is Jesus!
