Right Here Right Now Part 3

Billy Sunday- If you have no joy, there’s a leak in your Christianity somewhere.

Penned Truth: We learn in a trial to have deeper defiant joy.

Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary | Defiant: Boldly resisting;

Holman Illustrated Bible dictionary | Joy: State of delight and well-being. A number of Greek and Hebrew words are used to convey rejoicing.

Habakkuk 3:17–19 (ESV): 17  Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, 18  yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. 19  God, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places.

Penned Truth: Just as faith and love work together, faith and joy work together

Philippians 4:4 (CB) 4 Be full of joy in the Lord always. I will say again, be full of joy.

Penned Truth: We can do better at this and draw the world to us and not away from us.

  1. Defiant Joy doesn’t complain or grumble about people or situations

Ephesians 4:29 (ESV)  29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

  • Defiant Joy crumble to self-pity

Psalm 28:7 (ESV) 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.

  • Defiant Joy talks back to difficult situations with the Word of God

Romans 8:37 (ESV) 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

John 16:33 (ESV) 33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Deuteronomy 20:4 (ESV) 4 for the LORD your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.’

  • Defiant Joy isn’t easily defeated but is empowered by the authority of Christ Jesus

Philippians 4:13 (ESV) 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

  • Defiant Joy is optimistic, not pessimistic

Nahum 1:7 (ESV) 7 The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.

Penned Truth: Joy takes optimism, as medicine for the body, mind and soul.

  • Defiant Joy encourages and doesn’t tear down

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (AMPC) 11 Therefore encourage (admonish, exhort) one another and edify (strengthen and build up) one another…

  • Defiant Joy is a pleasure to be around! Why? Because It’s Full of Faith!

Psalm 3:3–6 (ESV) 3 But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. 4 I cried aloud to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy hill. 5 I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me. 6 I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.
