Peter Preaches Part 3/ Father’s Day

Penned Truth: There is a power higher than the court and higher than education.

John Scott – Preaching is indispensable to Christianity because Christianity is based on the truth that God chose to use words to reveal himself to humanity.

Acts 4:1–3 (ESV) 1 And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, 2 greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3 And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening.

2 Timothy 4:2 (NLT) 2 Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. . . . Stay Prepared

Matthew 10:18–20 (NLT) 18 You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell the rulers and other unbelievers about me. 19 When you are arrested, don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time. 20 For it is not you who will be speaking—it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Stay prepared

1 Preach God Gets The Glory

Martin Luther – Preach [and live] as if Jesus was crucified yesterday, rose from the dead today, and is returning tomorrow.

Acts 4:7–10 (ESV) 7 And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, 9 if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well.

2 Preach Jesus Is The Cornerstone

Chuck Swindoll – When intimidated by who’s sitting in the audience, we should remember the King of Kings is also here, and it’s his message.

Acts 4:11–12 (ESV) 11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Psalm 118:22 (KJV) – The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

Penned Truth: Jesus Christ cannot fit into man’s systems. He can’t be built on man’s religion.

3 Preach The Evidence

John Newton – My grand point in preaching is to break the hard heart, and to heal the broken one.

Acts 4:13 (ESV) 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

Acts 4:14 (ESV) 14 But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition.

Richard Baxter – I preached as never sure to preach again, and as a dying man to dying men.

Final Statement: On July 9, 1876, Charles Haddon Spurgeon declared in his sermon, “The motto of all true servants of God must be, ‘We preach Christ; and him crucified.’ A sermon without Christ in it is like a loaf of bread without any flour in it.
