Part 2 Orison

Luke 5:16 (ESV) 16 But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.

Billy Graham- “At its deepest level, prayer is fellowship with God: enjoying His company, waiting upon His will, thanking Him for His mercies . . . listening in the silence for what He has to say to us.”

Penned Truth- The table is where a deep connection and communion with God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are taking place.

John 15:4 (ESV) 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.

Penned Truth- When we talk to God, we must acknowledge that He is Lord, that His ways are higher than ours, and that we are utterly dependent on Him.

John 5:19–20 (ESV) 19 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel.

Billy Graham- You cannot afford to be too busy to pray.

A Prayer | Lexham Theological Wordbook: Prayer is intentional communication with God.

Tiffanie Butts- Living intentionally means doing things on purpose for a purpose. The desire to reach the end goal has to be greater than your feelings, your lack of motivation, any temporary inconvenience, and requires dying to your flesh.

•           Stop The Excuses

Daniel 6:10 (ESV) 10 When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.

Billy Graham- Nothing can replace a daily time spent alone with God in prayer.

•           Be Consistent

Prayerfulness | Dictionary of Bible Themes: An attitude by which a constant relationship between God and believers is developed.

•           Shut The Door

Matthew 6:5–6. (NLT) 5 “When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get. 6 But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private.

Penned Truth: As Christians our appreciation of, and our practice of, private prayer is absolutely vital.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NLT) Never stop praying.

•           Meditate on Scripture

Hebrews 4:12 (ESV) 12 For the word of God is living and active….

Example Psalm 23: Lord Jesus, You are my shepherd; help me to truly trust You today, knowing that I lack nothing in You.”

Penned Truth- Actively adding scripture allows our prayer to become a conversation rather than a list of requests.

•           Be Still and Listen

Ending Statement: We will never tune in to God’s frequency to hear and know His voice unless we establish a consistent rhythm and routine for our devotional life. Stop the excuses. To talk with God, we must approach prayer as a conversation rooted in His Word, guided by His Spirit, and filled with trust and submission. As we cultivate this kind of prayer life, you and I will not only present our requests but also listen for His voice, surrender our will, and experience deeper intimacy with Him.
