Luke 5:16 (AMP) 16 But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray [in seclusion]. (ESV) 16 But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray. (MSG) 16 As often as possible Jesus withdrew to out-of-the-way places for prayer.
Billy Graham- “At its deepest level, prayer is fellowship with God: enjoying His company, waiting upon His will, thanking Him for His mercies . . . listening in the silence for what He has to say to us.”
Penned Truth- The table signifies where a deep connection and communion with God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are taking place.
John 15:4 (ESV) 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
John 15:4 (AMPC) 4 Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me.
Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”
Isaiah 55:3 says, “Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live.”
Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct you and teach you.”
Matthew 17:5 5 He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.
Penned Truth: We serve a God who is simply after being with us, communing with him. It is not just about bringing a list to pray.
Commune: To share or participate in something, especially in a spiritual or communal context, often referring to deep communication with God.
John 15:4 (ESV) 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
John 17:1–5 (ESV) 1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.
John 17:25–26 (ESV) 25 O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. 26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
Ending Statement: Jesus was not just presenting requests; He was communing with the Father. This prayer reflects an intimacy, a deep connection that flows from His relationship with God. To talk with God, we have to be more aware that we must still our hearts and minds before speaking. Sit quietly, then ask God to speak to your heart. You may not hear an audible voice, but over time, you will begin to hear Him in your heart and mind, and your spirit will come alive when He is speaking. “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). This discipline takes time, but it’s crucial for moving from talking to God to talking with Him.
