The Bible has a great deal to say about both fasting and praying, including commands to fast and pray. The Bible also gives us examples of people who fasted and prayed, using different types of fasts for various reasons, all of which had positive results. The followers of John the Baptist fasted and prayed, the early church fasted and prayed, and Jesus fasted and prayed. What the Scriptures have taught us is, it’s something we are to do. Fasting and Prayer put us in the best possible position for a Breakthrough. That breakthrough might be in the realm of the spirit. It may be in the realm of your emotions or personal habits. It may be in the realm of a practical area of life, such as a relationship or finances.
The Scriptures give countless stories of periods of fasting and prayer that produce great breakthroughs.
I too could provide many personal stories of the same experiences. Like, what wasn’t a reality suddenly-unexpectedly now is a reality! A project that hadn’t been working out all of a sudden now works. The unwanted situation you’ve been facing is suddenly gone. The relationship that was unloving, unforgiving and unreasonable is suddenly full of love, grace, and mercy. That job that hadn’t even come close to materializing all of a sudden opens, and you step in.
Every person I know needs a breakthrough in some area of their personal life or family or church. I am no exception. I may require a breakthrough in understanding a situation, a breakthrough answer to a problem, a breakthrough idea, a breakthrough insight, a breakthrough in finances or material provision, either personally or for NEC. Someone may need a breakthrough in their health or a breakthrough in their marriage or family.
If you have any need in your life that seems unmovable, then you need a breakthrough from God to meet that need!
Fasting and prayer break the yoke of bondage and bring about a release of God’s presence, power, and provision. God told us to Start Strong at the first of the year, so we fasted for 21 days. Now just past the mid-way point, we are going to once again fast together as a church for 14 days to Stay Strong. July 18-31.
Don’t miss my message this Sunday called “Acronym” as I unpack a new tool for you to use in the Rhythm and Routine of your Devotional life during this fast and beyond. Prayer is your most significant weapon when used with Gods Word. And new tools are a big help too.
