Part 2 Fidei
Billy Graham stated, “Perhaps the greatest psychological, spiritual, and medical need that all people have is the need for hope.”
2 Corinthians 4:7-9 (ESV) 7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;….
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (ESV) 17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
Definition for Hope- Real hope is connected to a promise of redemption, restoration, and a future filled with God’s love and grace.
Penned Truth: Churches that bring hope create spaces for individuals to reconnect with their faith in God, who keeps His promises.
Hebrews 6:16-18 (EXB) 16 [For] People always ·use the name of [swear by] someone greater than themselves when they swear. The oath ·proves [is confirmation] that what they say is true, and this ·ends all arguing [or settles the dispute; C an oath by a higher authority is taken as a legal guarantee]. 17 God wanted to ·make very clear [demonstrate convincingly] to ·those who would get what he promised [the heirs of the promise] that his ·purposes [or plans] never change, so he ·made [confirmed/guaranteed it with] an oath. 18 These two things cannot change: God cannot lie when he makes a promise, and he cannot lie when he makes an oath.
Penned Truth: Yes, we can absolutely count on his promises. Do not allow your faith to disengage from hope.
Hebrews 11:1 (AMP) 1 Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].
Psalm 119:114 (ESV) 114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word.
Psalm 62:5-8 (ESV) 5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. 7 On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. 8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah
Penned Truth: When you are anchored to hope while you wait, the unseen becomes more real than the seen, and your faith grows.
Hebrews 11:1 (ESV) 11 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Psalm 42:5 (AMP) 5 Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become restless and disturbed within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, . . . .
Psalm 130:5 (AMP) 5 I wait [patiently] for the Lord, my soul [expectantly] waits, And in His word do I hope.
Penned Truth: Expectantly waiting means we do not fret or wait fearfully; we wait, expecting God to engage in our world on our behalf actively.
Isaiah 49:23 (ISV) 23 … I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed.
Penned Truth: Be anchored to hope rather than going through life anchored to fear, worry, and doubt.
Romans 15:13 (AMP) 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you will abound in hope and overflow with confidence in His promises.
Final Statement: Do you have your anchor down? Do you hold onto a hope filled with expectancy for God’s promises to be fulfilled in your and your family’s lives? Do you have your anchor down so you have hope that sees what is unseen, whether that be breaking free from addiction or restoring your family? Have you pulled up your anchor, drifting into doubt and losing sight of the unseen becoming your reality? Today, I urge you to firmly set your anchor back down once more.
