Easter 2023 | Easter Truth Gethsemane

Matthew 26:35 (ESV) 35 Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.

Max Lucado- The Bible is the story of two gardens, Eden and Gethsemane. In the first, Adam took a fall. In the second, Jesus took a stand.

Mark 14:32 (ESV) 32 And they went to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.”

Mark 14:33–34 (ESV) 33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly (deeply) distressed and troubled. 34 And he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch.”

Luke 22:44 (ESV)  44 And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; (pause) and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Penned Truth: The agony and pressure within forced blood from his veins.

Question: Why was Jesus in such distress?

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV)  21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us….

Penned Truth: Jesus’ suffering wasn’t due to the quantity of sin; it was due to sin’s evilness and wickedness.

Leonard Ravenhill- Gethsemane is where He died; the cross is only the evidence.

Penned Truth: Gethsemane reveals the truth of what we must do to walk in the freedom Christ provided for us, and it’s not popular.

Luke 22:41–42 (ESV) 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”

Penned Truth: Jesus chose the high purpose of God rather than abandoning it

Penned Truth: We want our way more times than not; we must address our self-centered and stubborn ways.

Psalm 143:10 (ESV)  10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!

Dwight L. Moody- Let God have your life; He can do more with it than you can.

Message To The Church

Matthew 26:39-41 (ESV) 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” 40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

To Those Who Know Not Christ As Savior-Father-Friend

Luke 22:42,44 (NASB) 42 saying, “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.” 44 And being in agony, He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground.
