Chesed- Red letters

Hebrew Word Chesed: Means more than simply “kindness.” It means giving oneself fully, with love and compassion.

Mother Teresa- Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting…Don’t only give your care but give your heart as well.

3 Scriptural Points-

            •           Love your neighbor.

Matthew 22:37–39 (ESV) 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

            •           Love is kind.

1 Corinthians 13:4-5 (ESV) 4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude….

            •           Kindness is love in action.

1 Corinthians 13:4–8 (ESV) 4. . . arrogant  5. . . It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never ends.

1. Nothing I Say Makes A Difference

1 Corinthians 13:1 (ESV) 1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

Penned Truth: Words without love are just noise and empty.

2. Nothing I Know or My Gift Makes A Difference

1 Corinthians 13:2 (NLT) 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing.

Penned Truth: We can be a walking encyclopedia, but if we don’t live a life of kindness, it doesn’t matter.

Penned Truth: Having a gift is cool, but remember, without kindness, it is ineffective.

3. Nothing I Give or Accomplish Makes A Difference

1 Corinthians 13:3 (ESV) 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Penned Truth: As Christians, we should give of our time, talent, and treasure.

Penned Truth: Whatever I’ve accomplished successfully lands hard on empty without living a life of kindness.

            •           Saturate Your Mind With Verses About Kindness

Luke 10:30–37 (NLT) 30 Jesus replied with a story: “A Jewish man was traveling from Jerusalem down to Jericho, and he was attacked by bandits. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him up, and left him half dead beside the road. 31 “By chance a priest came along. But when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by. 32 A Temple assistant walked over and looked at him lying there, but he also passed by on the other side. 33 “Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him. 34 Going over to him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him. 35 The next day he handed the innkeeper two silver coins, telling him, ‘Take care of this man. If his bill runs higher than this, I’ll pay you the next time I’m here.’ 36 “Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?” Jesus asked. 37 The man replied, “The one who showed him mercy.” Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the same.”

Mother Teresa: Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.

Finial Penned Truth: Why is kindness important? We have no clue what amazing things God can do with our acts of kindness. It could impact someone in ways we never know. One simple act of kindness could completely change someone’s perspective. An act of kindness can bring hope to someone who feels hopeless. Our acts of kindness can be a light in a hostile and indifferent world. One simple act of kindness to someone different than you can bring them to the saving grace of Jesus Christ our Lord.
