Part 1 Aufgabe
Penned Truth: Aufgabe (mission) begins in the heart of God and is revealed by the Holy Spirit.
Merriam-Webster’s collegiate thesaurus | Mission: a continuing task or responsibility that one is destined or fitted to do or specially called upon to undertake.
Proverbs 11:30 (AMP) 30 The fruit of the [consistently] righteous is a tree of life, And he who is wise captures and wins souls [for God—he gathers them for eternity].
Charles Spurgeon- “If sinners will be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our bodies.”
Luke 4:18–19 (ESV) 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Luke 19:10 (ESV) 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Luke 15:1-3 (EXB) 1 The tax collectors [who were despised because they worked for the Roman rulers and were notorious for corruption and extortion] and sinners all ·came [drew near] to listen to Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the ·teachers of the law [scribes] began to ·complain [murmur; grumble]: “Look, this man ·welcomes [associates with; receives] sinners and even eats with them.” 3 Then [So] Jesus told them this ·story [parable]:
Penned Truth: We must ask ourselves; do we believe some people are not worthy to come to God?
Luke 15:4–7 (ESV) 4 “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ 7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
Luke 15:8–10 (ESV) 8 “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it? 9 And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’ 10 Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
Penned Truth: The story of the lost sheep and coin is written in the bible to get the church’s attention on our mission.
• Jesus actively sought out the lost people around him.
• He was not passive and lifeless but proactive about reaching lost people.
• Heaven is thrilled, overjoyed when just one person repents and is saved.
Key Fact: Jesus sought after the lost because they were Valuable to Him.
Lost People: Morally, physically, lost to the faith and unable to find their way back, lost to shame, lacking self-confidence, feeling unappreciated or misunderstood, obscured from view, or overlooked, and those without Jesus as their Savior.
Key Fact: The lost should be Valuable to Us.
Dave Davidson- “If you found a cure for cancer, wouldn’t it be inconceivable to hide it from the rest of mankind? How much more inconceivable to keep silent the cure from the eternal wages of death.”
Final Statement: As Christ’s followers, we, the Church, are called to go and make disciples of Jesus Christ. Jesus clarifies this in the Great Commission of Matthew 28: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations.” This passage means that our faith community here at NEC must reach the lost—it is part of our calling. We must individually reach out to lost people and help them find their way home. Also, we reach them and help them connect in the Church, the Community of Faith. So, go into the world and share your Jesus stories and life with those around you. Even more, be the message of Christ in the way you live.
