Mary, the mother of Jesus, had a unique experience. One day, an angel comes to Mary with the most incredible announcement: “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son… The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So, the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”  (Luke 1:30,35)

Mary would become pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Not only that, but the child conceived in her would be none other than the Son of God, who would be born in order that He might establish an eternal kingdom.  Now that’s quite a mind-blowing bit of information for a young teenager living in a little town like Nazareth.

Wrapped in Mary’s story is a truth that we must receive and walk out. Mary’s humble submission to God marks for us a pattern of life we must follow. She gave up all claims to her own body, her own reputation, and her own future. At this Christmas season and throughout our lives, may we, like Mary, say to our Lord, “I am Your servant. May Your will be done in my life.”

So be it!
