Isaiah 7:14, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.”

A baby is born in Bethlehem only to grow up and die at age 33 on a cross for you and me. At the time of Jesus’ crucifixion- crucifixions were ordinary, everyday occurrences. And it was not unusual for a good person to die on a Roman cross. Undoubtedly, many innocent people suffered the cross at the hands of the oppressive Roman government. However, these other people had not been tortured as Jesus had been. And these other good people were not the sacrificial lamb.

God became a person, became flesh. It is God in Christ, God as man, and nobody else, dying on the cross, assuming our sin. As Richelle and I have been witnesses to the miracle healing I’ve been experiencing from the laceration on my face, which started about 2 inches long, is now only a little over an inch. Amazing how quickly it’s healing, and as it heals, there is no real scarring, also fantastic.

Scars… Jesus had scars that he revealed to His disciples so they would believe it was Him. Every scar was for you and me. And when Thomas saw those scars in the glorified body of Jesus, he fell to his knees and said, my Lord and my God.

The community of North Elevation Church, we need to remember those scars every day of our lives. And this Christmas, we need to celebrate the miracle of Jesus’ birth in a brand new way. The Son, who exited heaven to come to this earth to be born in a stable, only to grow up and be nailed to a cross, did it all for you and me.

Jesus is nailed to that cross, so our sin debt could be paid in full. And He has the scars to prove it!
