Part 3 Cultures Agenda
Charles Spurgeon once said, “I believe that one reason why the church of God at this present moment has so little influence over the world is because the world has so much influence over the church.”
Penned Truth: We will either set the culture or reflect the culture. We are the influence, or we are being influenced.
Proverbs 3:5–8 (ESV) 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
Penned Truth: If you are not trusting God, by default, then you are only trusting in yourself or someone else, and neither pleases God.
Daniel 2:20–21 (ESV) 20 Daniel answered and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. 21 He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;….
2 Timothy 2:13 (ESV) 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.
Timothy Keller said, “Putting our faith in Christ is not about trying harder; it means transferring our trust away from ourselves and resting in him.”
Philippians 4:6–7 (ESV) 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 26:3-4 (AMP) 3 “You will keep in [a]perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both [b]inclination and character], Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation]. 4 “Trust [confidently] in the Lord forever [He is your fortress, your shield, your banner], For the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].
Jeremiah 17:7–8 (ESV) 7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. 8 He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
Isaiah 43:2-3 (AMP) 2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you. 3 “For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;….
Psalm 91:1-2 (EXB) 1 Those who ·go to God Most High for safety [L dwell/sit in the shelter of God Most High] will ·be protected by [lodge in the shade/shadow of] the Almighty. 2 I will say to the Lord, “You are my ·place of safety [refuge] and ·protection [fortress]. You are my God and I ·trust [have confidence in] you.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 (AMP) 22 It is because of the Lord’s lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, Because His [tender] compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; Great and beyond measure is Your faithfulness.
Psalm 34:8 (ESV) 8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Final Statement: The peace, strength, and guidance we want and desire in difficult times is found in full surrender to God. We must trust and relying on His faithfulness because the truth is although we forget in times of trouble, that He has proven Himself faithful throughout our personal history.
